SOUTH & WATER, Baroque Gallery. Kyiv, Ukraine / 2023

Marta Syrko's exhibition includes a selection of works from two projects.

In the Water project, the artist uses two mediums, an aquarium and a swimming pool. Thus, she manipulates the shapes of the objects and people she photographs. Marta's idea was connected with the fact that she deals with her fears because one of the artist's main phobias is swimming. During the filming, she returns to learn how to swim through this creative process, by struggling with her fear.

The South is the second project presented as a part of the exhibition. Because all the landscapes were made in the South of Ukraine. This is a type of land art related to photography, where the moment of reuniting the body with the landscape takes place, where emotions, memories, and sensations are applied. The artworks were created during 2019-2020 in Askania-Nova and the canyons of the South. Works from these series were made with the help of a drone.

ANCESTRAL CODE, Baroque Gallery. Kyiv, Ukraine / 2023

"Ancestral Code" is the first retrospective project of Inna Kharchuk which allows visitors to trace the creative path and development of the artist. Each painting is a collective image of our ancestors. Their faces look back at us from the past, proclaiming high moral ideals and life values. The figurative abstraction of the painter combines the elements of realism with pure spectrum colors, which beneficially fuse via artistic experiments. In the noted context these elements become the reminiscence of Ukrainian culture in the artwork.

While working on the series and separate pieces, Inna used photographs from the archives. Not only did she research the uniqueness of the traditional female Ukrainian costume but also the context of the situation when the particular picture was taken. Artworks demonstrate research in the field of a new concept of heritage, memory, fidelity, and Ukrainian culture in a modernized approach. The main research of the artist's work is the values of generations. She talks about what was lost and what was gained through the research of archival photos of Ukrainians from different regions, focusing on the global consequences of war.

THE GIANT, Baroque Gallery. Kyiv, Ukraine / 2022

Coming from a different background, Artem Humilevsky joined MYPH.art photography school which started a new page in his artistic practice. A project called GIANT has become a starting point in his artistic career. A period of pandemic that appeared to be a long-lasting part of each life manifested such things as strict conditions and unacceptability. He doesn’t call his process of creation «photography», he says it’s true research for him as an artist.

By fulfilling these experiments, he caught himself on a thought that the most unexplored object – it’s the photographer himself. A GIANT took two years of creation as a long-lasting project, starting from 2020 up to 2022 when the war in Ukraine started. This project is based on inner research and freedom. The central object of research for the artist is himself, where his body appears to be an instrument and a certain shape. Creating series filled with self-portraits in nudes, the artist creates a certain journey that the viewer can trace in different places.

The exhibition “The Ray of Light” is created from the artworks of young artists of Ukrainian origin. The participants of the exhibition are Yelena Sindyeyeva, Olesia Rybchenko and T. This exhibition has become a new opportunity for Ukrainian artists to develop their creativity and share their artistic experience with German audience. These works could be divided into three separate groups where each part of the project is connected by one common idea – longing for the light and hope. Still, national distinctive features are reflected in the media of T who combines unique Ukrainian textiles with paint in her practice. During the exhibition, each art admirer will have the ability to become acquainted with young artists whose works are presented by paintings and sculptures.

The artworks of Yelena Sindyeyeva show a pure combination of reflecting a lyrical attempt to find the very lost aestheticism. These artworks were created as a first experimental result after experiencing the German culture and in particular the media of mapping – show light effects on the architecture of the Karlsruhe City Palace. The latest works created by Olesia Rybchenko combine artistic vision through color and dynamics. In selected pieces of art created by T, viewers can see imaginary figures reflecting the variety of forms and images that were used in her practice and visual language. The main idea that runs through all the artworks is a dream fantasy, fictional reality, and special plots.

“The Ray of Light” is a unique chance for the German audience and collectors to acquainted with the artworks of young artists at the Das Art Institut of the city of Karlsruhe to experience the new conceptual approaches that artists reflect in their latest series.

Resistance, Baroque Gallery. Kyiv, Ukraine / 2022

The virtual exhibition “RESISTANCE”  is created from the works of multiple Ukrainian artists: young and experienced. They live in different cities and work in different styles and with different media. In a previous version of reality – the peaceful one – we could hardly imagine getting these works together in one space. But war has changed everything. In the context of war, virtual reality has become a new opportunity for Ukrainian artists to continue to develop their creativity and share their experiences with foreign colleagues and cultural institutions abroad.

These works could be divided into two big logical groups “Before” and “After” the familiar reality was ruined. In some works, we can see its fragility and the ghosts of future events – for example in “Touch” by Liza Zhdanova, “Torture” by Oleksandra Ostroverkhova, “Letter Series” by Karina Sinica and “The Man in the dark room” – a project by Lena Kurzel. Still, national distinctive features are reflected in “Blur”  by Alina Konyk and “Mills”  by Olesia Rybchenko.

During the virtual tour, you will have the ability to become acquainted with Ukrainian artists whose works are presented by NFT such as Aleksandr Prytula and Lizave, classic paintings, collages, watercolors, and sculpture.
